Dr. h. c. Katharina von Schnurbein was appointed the European Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life in 2015. Prior, she served on the advisory team of President J. M. Barroso, responsible for the Dialogue with religions and non-confessional organizations (2010-2015) and as Commission Spokesperson (2004-2010). She started her EU career in 2002 as Press Officer at the EU Delegation to the Czech Republic. For her work in the fight against antisemitism she has received multiple awards, including an Honorary Doctorate from Ben Gurion University of the Negev in 2024. Dr. h. c. von Schnurbein studied Political Science and Slavonic Studies in Prague, Bonn and Oxford. She is married and has four children.
