Pots and Peoples Revisited – The Search for Identity in Archaeological Records of the Levant in the Bronze- and Iron Ages

International Conference

Schedule: June 12 to 14, 2024

Venue: Luxembourg School of Religion & Society, L-2728 Luxembourg

Goal
The conference aims to bring together scholars from different archaeological, historical, and natural science disciplines who have little or no opportunity to meet due to the political situation in the Near and Middle East. The occasion is a research question that currently plays a major role in the archaeology of the Levant and is hotly debated. The project is about finding a new sustainable methodology in archaeology as well as contributing a bit to mutual understanding and cooperation in a region where at the moment hardly any exchange is possible. There will be an overall conference, which will focus more on theoretical issues and the development of a methodology, and a more specific workshop, which will bring together excavators and researchers in the Jordan Valley. Especially in the Jordan Valley, an exchange is essential, since it is an ancient cultural area that was only divided by modern borders. Unfortunately, this exchange has been made almost impossible in the last decade.

For this purpose, Luxembourg, in the center of Europe, is the ideal meeting point, which can be visited by all participants and represents neutral ground for the encounter.

Organizer
Assist.-Prof. Dr. Katja Soennecken (LSRS and DEI Jerusalem – Biblical Archaeology and Theology).

Full Schedule of the conference can be downloaded here.

Participation fee: EUR 50.- (for those who are not presenting a paper).
