Conference by Prof. Carl Raschke
The neoliberal world order constructed by the American and European democracies after the fall of the Soviet Union three decades ago is rapidly coming apart. Populist and ethnonationalist movements increasingly clash with long-established “democratic” governments and transnational institutions as they want to get both political power and cultural influence. Behind these seeming planetwide socio-political struggles powerful “religious” forces seek to redefine for the next few centuries, at least, what is ultimately “real” and to forge new strategies for making it real.
Carl Raschke is Professor of Philosophy of Religion at the University of Denver and senior editor of The Journal for Cultural and Religious Theory. He is also a member of the scientific advisory board of the Center for Religion and Transformation at the University of Vienna. He is the author of over 20 books, most recently Neoliberalism and Political Theology: From Kant to Identity Politics, and Force of God: Political Theology and the Crisis of Liberal Democracy.
