Marius van Hoogstraten

Marius van Hoogstraten is a postdoctoral research associate at the Mennonite Seminary in the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. As an Affiliate Researcher at the LSRS, he works closely with Prof. Chris Doude van Troostwijk on the development of an “inventive theology”: A theology that conceives faith as a fundamentally creative (or “inventive”) practice of combination and juxtaposition of various sources. In his habilitation research project, Dr. van Hoogstraten is investigating the way the 16th-century Anabaptist Schleitheim Articles can be read as an inventive ecclesiopolitical document, describing how community is made, maintained, and restaged. He is also a preacher of the Mennonite congregation in Hamburg, Germany, where he lives with his family.
