« The Chapel of the Resurrection » -
A Presentation by Maxim Kantor

During the pandemic, Kantor created the “Chapel of the Resurrection”: 7 paintings, with their predellas, showing saints struggling with God and searching for Him.

Kantor’s work creates a space where the divine presence is not “realized” in art: the works offer their own presence; they engage the viewers’ senses and mind to create an impression of some real presence, which is not the divine presence, but one that involves people in dialogue.

This dialogue can happen in a group or as an inner experience, bringing the human life into contact with the life of art. For some, this encounter can initiate a process of discernment in which the divine presence is recognized as such. For others, Kantor’s artwork can produce a shock; its material presence challenges the viewer to assess their own impressions in analyzing the artistic work while trying to understand what is happening within themself, opening the space and time for dialogue.

In his talk, given on February 17th, 2022, and recorded here on video, Maxim Kantor introduces the visitors to his creative process and highlights the major aspects of his work.
